Description
Empúries is one of the privileged settings of our history as it is considered the gateway to Greek and Roman culture in the Iberian Peninsula. It is an exceptional site where the remains of a Greek city -the colonial enclave of Emporion- coexist with those of a Roman city, the ancient Emporiae, created at the beginning of the 1st century BC. C. on the structures of a Roman military camp. Empúries is a privileged place to understand the evolution of Greek urbanism implanted in the western end of the Mediterranean, as well as to analyze Roman urbanism in the final period of the Republic and its subsequent transformation during the imperial era. Empúries is located facing the sea in the municipality of L'Escala to the south of the Bay of Roses, classified by UNESCO as one of the most beautiful in the world. During the visit you can walk the streets of the Greek city and the Roman city, delight yourself with the mosaics that decorated the floors of the wealthy houses or make a wish to the god Asclepius who watched over the health of the Emporitans. A small museum shows a selection of the objects found during the excavations, testimony of life in the city in which the Hellenistic image of the god Asclepius stands out.Includes
