Description
The tour departs from Barcelona to Besalú, noted by National Geographic for its medieval charm and photogenic Old Bridge. This bridge, originally built in the 11th century on a Roman foundation and rebuilt in the 14th century and post-Civil War, features two angled sections and a central tower with an arch.
In Besalú’s town center, walk through streets rich with medieval architecture and visit key ecclesiastical sites: the churches of Sant Pere, Santa Maria, and Sant Vicenç, showcasing Romanesque and Gothic styles. The Jewish Quarter includes medieval baths once used for ritual ablutions.
After exploring Besalú, the tour continues to Costa Brava to hike along a 1.5-kilometer section of the historic Camí de Ronda. This path was once used to monitor for pirate attacks and now passes small coves with clear water. Lunch is served on a terrace overlooking the sea.
Next, visit the Monumental Area of the Sant Sebastià Lighthouse, highlighting an ancient Iberian settlement, and nearby Ullastret, the most important Iberian archaeological site in the region. Enjoy panoramic coastal views.
The final stop is the medieval village of Pals, known for its narrow streets and the Torre de les Hores viewpoint, offering views over the surrounding landscape. The tour concludes with a return to Barcelona.
