Dali Museum
Costabrava
He was born in Figueres and lived in Paris and New York, where other artists from these places collaborated with his eccentricities.
He loved the seaside village of Cadaqués where he and his family spent their holidays, however, the nearby cove at Portlligat was especially close to his heart, as this was where he and his muse, Gala (who was later to become his wife), first bought a little fisherman’s cabin which was enlarged over the years and became what is today the House-Museum Salvador Dalí.
Be aware that it’s best to book entrance tickets in advance to visit this museum if you don’t want to be disappointed.
Dalí was highly imaginative and his behaviour was somewhat unusual and grandiose. In fact, his eccentric manner and public outbursts sometimes drew more attention than his artwork.
Some of his famous phrases such as “surrealism is me” are well known.
He attributed his taste for gilded and excessive things, his passion for luxury and his love for oriental clothes to his Arab ancestors.
Who knows whether Salvador Dalí was mad or a genius, but what we can be sure of is that his works of art are unique.
